Helical
Most people wanting a VHS look reach for a plug-in that fakes it. Helical runs your upload through a real VCR and sends the tape pass back as a file.
Made by Ethan.
Why it was made
A real tape deck instead of a plug-in
Helical exists because the usual way to get a VHS look is a software filter. Here the video is uploaded, physically recorded onto VHS tape, rewound and captured back to digital. The customer sees a preview and only pays if they approve, with prices set by video length rather than by the month or by the second.
It is not an editor and not a subscription. There is nothing to install and no software to learn, and the service handles one job: a real tape pass and the digitised file that comes back from it, with optional edit-ready masters and an upscale.
