Photon Studio is an image editor that installs on a computer rather than running in a browser. It offers layers, groups, masks, adjustment layers, smart objects and layer effects, along with Liquify warping, a live Curves preview, subject selection, background removal, command search and native PSD support. It is available free for macOS, Windows 11 and Linux.

The page is explicit about what the software avoids: there is no upload step, no processing queue and no account required to open a file. Even subject selection and background removal run on the user's own machine, so files stay local and the editor works offline.
